CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT BY COLDROP

WHAT IS TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT ? Traffic management is the control of pedestrians, vehicles and plant that are present on construction sites.

Controlling vehicles Each site should have a traffic management plan, this is a visual layout of the site that shows structures, roads, site storage, compound, pedestrian routes etc. (depending what's on your site)

1000’s of people every year are injured after being struck by moving vehicles EIGHT people were killed during 2005/6 Where possible, pedestrians and vehicles/plant need to be segregated

CARS AND VANS If you drive your car or van on site you should…………………………….. Only park in designated parking areas Don’t block pedestrian routes Don’t block traffic routes Obey the speed limit

WHO IS AT RISK ? Everyone who enters the site ! Tradesmen Delivery drivers Residents Visitors YOU !!!

What to do Introduce segregated pedestrian walkways Introduce speed limits Reduce the need for reversing vehicles, such as introduce a ONE WAY system Use a qualified BANKSMAN to control deliveries and reversing vehicles Designated loading/unloading areas

PEDESTRIANS Keep safe by following these basic rules………………………………. Keep to designated footpaths Wear your Hi-Viz clothing so you can be seen If you have to walk near, always get the operator’s attention before walking by any machines or plant

PLANT OPERATION If you are plant operator, follow these basic rules…………………………….. Wear the seatbelt if one is fitted Have the flashing beacon turned “on” to let everyone know your machine is active Ensure you undertake your daily maintenance checks on your machine BEFORE you start work

DELIVERIES With the amount of materials that are usually delivered to site, you need to be aware of the potential dangers that exist The telehandler reversing and moving short/long distances with loads Mobile cranes swinging loads off flatbed lorries and into position Excavations at roadside/traffic route

BE SAFE Whatever your role on site, you have a responsibility to yourself and others to minimise the risk of injury and death By obeying the traffic management rules, you are helping to keep everyone safe on site
