Doctoral study Exploring the impact of language on widening participation students Institutional approval produced contradictory feedback Should I be explicit when communicating to students the reason for their participation? Yes – researchers should be upfront and open about their research practices  No – there is potential to inadvertently affect a student’s engagement with study by explicitly ‘labelling them’ in this way
