Figure 2 Network connections of the hypothalamus Figure 2 | Network connections of the hypothalamus. Connections of the hypothalamus include cortical areas (the insula and anterior cingulate cortex) and subcortical and brainstem regions. Hypothalamic atrophy and involvement of the insula have been documented in several neurodegenerative diseases, suggesting that changes in this network mediate the different physiological phenotypes observed across the neurodegenerative spectrum.
