Self-portraits & fame

Have you ever met a famous person? If you could any famous person, who would you most like to meet? What would you say to the famous person? What questions would you ask?

Selfies How often do you and your friends do this? Why do people do this?

Do you think that these two images are similar or different? Why? Discuss the similarities and differences in groups: Think about the posture and expression of the people, background, style & composition, purpose of the image, and say how you think that they feel.

You are going to read extracts from the Guardian newspaper’s article on the “best self-portraits in art”. Read the extracts and check any unknown vocabulary. What do you think the self-portrait looks like? Draw your idea of the image.

Choose 2 of the self-portraits to compare. What image have the artists portrayed of themselves? How do you think the artist is feeling? B: Which portrait is your favourite and why?
