TASK 2 What is ‘MARK MAKING’? 8cm At the top-right draw a rectangle measuring 8cm x 10cm. Pencil Now go around the Art room and write down the names of all the different media. Start with ‘pencil’ as number 1. 2. Biro 10cm etc.

You have an ability to control the media successfully to create a range of marks/textures.

Select 3 of the media from your list (not pencil) 15 minutes Select 3 of the media from your list (not pencil) Using each media you will make some marks in 3 of the boxes of your 9 square grid. Use 3 horizontal squares for 1 media and then go to the next one. Make a different mark in each box Fill the box completely with that same mark. Write the name of the media at the side of the row of boxes you have filled. graphite

Now draw another 3 square horizontal grid each measuring 3cm x 3cm. 10 minutes Now draw another 3 square horizontal grid each measuring 3cm x 3cm. Using your 2B pencil in different ways, create 3 different textures that fill the entire boxes.

Swap your sketchbook with another person who is on the same differentiation level as you. 3 minutes Look at their media experiments work. Using your personal judgement, assess this work using the criteria opposite. Give a positive comment or some advice for improvement on the progression sheet in the back of their book. Assessment Criteria: Good control of each media (stayed inside the grids – neatly applied) Creative use of the media (using it in 3 different, but successful, ways)

PREP.WORK Access the Art and Design department VLE page. Under the YEAR 7 heading click on the ‘Mark Making and Colour Theory’ link. Download the ‘Design Brief’ and either: a) print it and stick it in your book or b) adjust the fonts and colours on Word before printing it and sticking it in your book or c) create your own decorative page with a heading and copy the information out neatly. (merits will be given for high quality pages in options b or c)
