of hydrography in Antarctic waters Hydrographic Commission on Antarctica Seminar on the status and the impact of hydrography in Antarctic waters Item 2.4 Conclusions - Proposals

 Since 2008, very little effect!  Since 2014, minor improvements! Existing atcm resolutions in relation to hydrography Resolution 5 (2008), ATCM XXXI, Kiev, Ukraine “…Recommend that Governments… clarify requirements for the collection of hydrographic data… identify priority areas… encourage their national programme vessels to collect data… endeavor to find additional resources towards…”  Since 2008, very little effect! Resolution 5 (2014), ATCM XXXVII, Brasilia, Brazil “…Recommend that the Parties… promote contacts between national Antarctic programs and national HOs… increase mutual cooperation… co-ordinate hydrographic surveys… complete their inventory of data holdings… avoid duplication of effort… encourage…all other vessels to… collect data including passage soundings, …forward data collected to chart producer …”  Since 2014, minor improvements!

So, WHAT CAN WE DO BETTER ? PROPOSALS Noting that there is no need for another ATCM Resolution, ATCM to consider the ways and means and guidelines to implement current ATCM Resolutions, by setting up: key objectives for the hydrography in Antarctica based on strategic targets area and application priorities guidance a centralized data collection approach based on IHO crowd source bathymetry infrastructure HCA to consider the requirements and guidelines from ATCM and develop implementation procedures HCA to report periodically to ATCM on the progress of implementation and to make data publicly available through open data GIS services
