PGCE/School Direct Primary 2019-2020 Welcome to Taster Day! We will start at 9.30. Please help yourselves to coffee. If you have any specific questions you would like answered today, then please write them on a post-it or piece of paper and put them on the table at the front of the room.

Overview of the day 9.30 – Welcome and Introductions (Steph Laird) 9.45 – PGCE and School Direct Introductory talks (Steph Laird and Pablo Mayorga) 10.30 – Introduction to Professional Studies (Sarah Leonard) 10.50 – Introduction to English (Alastair Daniel/Steph Laird) 11.10 – Coffee break 11.40 – Introduction to Maths (Lorraine Hartley) 12.00 – Introduction to Science (Jacqui Lewis) 12.20 – Final questions 12.30 – DBS checks (optional if agreed with the admissions team)

School Placements 3 days of observation (trainee arranges 4th – 6th September – letter for Head Teachers on the Welcome Pages – we will provide you with an Observation days booklet on Monday 2nd September in Induction) Reviewing Pedagogy weeks in local schools in October and late January (UoR organises) Block School Experience 1 (BSE1) – assessed placement - in November and December for 7 weeks (UoR organises) Out of phase experience (3 days) in December (trainee arranges/UoR) Block School Experience 2 (BSE2) – assessed placement - beginning March for 13 weeks (UoR organises)

Observation days in September Letter for Head Teacher (on the Welcome Pages) – you need to arrange these asap - get the number of days in school recorded, signed and a short comment about your professional behaviour. Observation days task booklet – will be provided during induction.

Induction Days Monday 2 September Tuesday 3 September Location: The Portrait room, Grove House, Froebel College, University of Roehampton, SW15 5PJ Time: 9-5pm You will be given a full timetable on the first day and meet your group and group tutor. We look forward to seeing you then!
