Articles and Demonstrative Adjectives

Two special kinds of Adjectives: Articles – a, an, the Demonstrative – this, that, these, those

Articles A, an, and the A and an refer to any one person, place, or thing. The refers to a particular one.

For Example: Let’s take a trip. *any trip I would like to buy an orange. *any orange Did you pack for the trip? *specific trip

Demonstrative adjectives This, that, these, and those point out nouns. This/that refer to singular items that are near/far. These/those refer to plural items that are near/far.

For Example: This cart is heavy. Which cart? That desk in the corner is mine. These markers belong to Mrs. Zewe. Those pens over there are Mary’s.
