John 7:25-36

25 Some of the people of Jerusalem therefore said, “Is not this the man whom they seek to kill? 26 And here he is, speaking openly, and they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Christ? 27 But we know where this man comes from, and when the Christ appears, no one will know where he comes from.” 28 So Jesus proclaimed, as he taught in the temple, “You know me, and you know where I come from. But I have not come of my own accord. He who sent me is true, and him you do not know.

29 I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me 29 I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me.” 30 So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. 31 Yet many of the people believed in him. They said, “When the Christ appears, will he do more signs than this man has done?” 32 The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent officers to arrest him

33 Jesus then said, “I will be with you a little longer, and then I am going to him who sent me. 34 You will seek me and you will not find me. Where I am you cannot come.” 35 The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find him? Does he intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36 What does he mean by saying, ‘You will seek me and you will not find me,’ and, ‘Where I am you cannot come’?”

overview of John 7 Theological Sign Growing Opposition to Jesus Exclusive Claims Division and Confusion About Who Jesus Is The Glorious Gospel Invitation

What kind of jesus are you looking for?

People around jesus Crowds Hostile unbelievers Angry mobs Corrupt Politicians Self-righteous leaders False Believers True Disciples

situation Confusion Unbelief Hatred Mumbling Mockery Desertion Division

What they wanted They’re looking for the entertainment and excitement. The promise and prospects of the supernatural. Earthly political power by trying to make Him King. Seeking personal prosperity.  Someone who would not disturb their religious lives.

What they wanted They wanted a Jesus who would establish their visions of grandeur.  They saw God as a bank.  They saw God as a repository for all that they want, and all they want to know is the mechanism to get it from Him.   Trying to achieve and meet desires in this world that can only be achieved in Christ. Not satisfied with a relationship with Him

What they got They wanted a messiah who would do their own will than His/ They got a Lord and Savior They did not know God/ To know God is to trust Christ They trusted the wrong sources/ The Bible is the only source on information about God

Conclusion God’s plan doesn’t stop marching even if you don’t know what He is doing or if there is opposition   There is a greater kingdom than your own and a greater king than you and he will not surrender to you  Accept His Offer

Who do you say I am? The promise of Christ: "I WILL build my church." The power of Christ: "I will BUILD my church." The possession of Christ: "I will build MY church." The people of Christ: "I will build my CHURCH."
