Research Paper Writing Logistics

Basics Times New Roman 12 pt. Font 1 inch margins Double spaced

Basics Page numbers: Insert  Page Numbers, always in top right of page

Basics Title page Includes paper title, name, due date, period, homeroom No pictures or other information

Basics Paper Title Included at the top of your first page and on the title page Is not a question Lets reader know what the paper’s focus will be

Footnotes Should match the font of the paper (Times New Roman) & is size 10 Full citation needed the first time you use the source; you can use an abbreviated citation after If using the same source in the next paragraph use “Ibid” as the footnote If using a book source, page numbers must be included Are single spaced In Word: Reference Tab  Insert Footnote No Headers or Footers

Works cited Should include all sources you used to create your paper You can also include sources here that you consulted, but might not have cited in the paper itself Alphabetized Is titled Works Cited, it is not a bibliography Is its own page and is the final page of the research paper Does not contain irrelevant information from EasyBib N.P., N.D., </>

Good Rules No contractions Can’t, won’t, didn’t No slang Bruh, the way FDR ended the Great Depression was so lit. Nixon was salty because he found out the FBI wiretapped him. Write out numbers Any number under 100 should be typed out 22  twenty two

Good Rules No First Person Pronouns  "I", "we," "me," "us," "my," and "our“ Don’t use “In conclusion”  The reader will know they are looking at the conclusion based on the content Don’t use other qualifiers  “really,” “very,” “surely,” “often,” “hopefully,” “basically,” etc. These terms make your paper sound unsure; remove them to make it sound direct

Good Rules Don’t include irrelevant information  it confuses the reader and doesn’t add anything to your paper Don’t lengthen your paper on purpose  use the researched information you have collected and analyze it; No Fluff! Don’t generalize  be specific about what you want to say; generalizing gives the impression that you don’t have anything to prove Use the statistics, numbers, and facts you have found in your research to support your arguments

Good Rules Use direct and clear language not “fancy” words you think make your writing sound better On the date of April 13, 2019, he had searched out the answer to the big question. Use the correct tense for the words your are writing  Don’t switch back and forth between present, past, and future when writing; it confuses the reader and makes your paper hard to follow Have someone else besides yourself read your paper  A fresh set of eyes will give you much better feedback
