Welcome to Mrs. Stelick’s and Mrs. Wright’s Class

Goals To provide a positive and motivating learning environment for your child For each child to reach his or her highest potential while in our classrooms To give students the tools they need to be highly successful students, not only this year, but in the years to come

Expectations We have extremely high expectations of all students, both academically and behaviorally. We will work together to develop a classroom environment where all students can succeed. Success is defined not by perfection, but rather each person doing his or her very best. Please encourage your child to come to school each day prepared to give their best effort!

Parent/Teacher Communication Please get out your phone! >Download the classtag app for free in your app store >Enter the code we give you >Set up your account and preferences *Planners *Website *Homework Folders

Planner The planner is a great way for you to monitor what your child is learning each day. It is also a wonderful communication tool between home and school. Please feel free to write questions or comments to Mrs. Stelick and/or Mrs. Wright in your child’s planner. Also, please check and sign your child’s planner each day.

Planner Donation * The school is asking parents for a $5.00 donation to cover the cost of the planners and school folders. Thank you! If you have already turned in a donation, THANK YOU!

Newsletter We will send a newsletter home each Friday. This will include a “road map” of our studies, spelling/vocabulary words, and important news/dates. Any other information from our class will be sent home as needed and your child will write those and any other test dates in his/her planner. Please check your child’s homework folder each night.

Attendance Faithful attendance increases a child’s chance of achieving his or her maximum potential in the classroom. Class attendance will be taken at 8:05 a.m. Please make sure your child is on time. Ideally, students should be in the gym by 7:50. Students are required to turn in a parent note or doctor note for each absence, tardy, or early check out. Please send a note as soon as possible to be sent to the office for absences. Students are allowed five unexcused absences each year. When a student reaches the sixth unexcused absence, a letter will be sent home to the child’s parents explaining the possibility of truancy actions.

Dismissal *Please send in a note for any changes in dismissal. *We work right up to the bitter end! Please do not check out early unless for appointments/emergencies. *Going home with a friend requires a note from both parents. *If you need to change this during the day, please call the office.

Make up Work If your child is absent it will be necessary for them to complete their make-up work at home. Please call or email us to arrange a time you can pick up their work.

Homework Mrs. Wright - Homework: Every Tuesday and Thursday Mrs. Stelick – as needed EXCEPTION: Your child may have homework on other days throughout the week due to incomplete daily assignments. PLEASE check your child’s planner every afternoon.

Behavior Plan

Classroom Behavior Plan Clip up, Clip Down INCENTIVES: Treasure Box visit Positive phone calls and notes Treats Words of encouragement, love, and praise Stars

Reading/Language/Writing Variety of reading materials: Basal reader, trade books, and nonfiction articles. Writing: Journals—students will write in their journals everyday to build writing skills. We will focus on writing so that students will be prepared for the TNReady Assessment.

Reading/Language/Writing Spelling tests: every 2 weeks – our first test will be on Friday, August 17th, and it will be a trial test.

Grading Scale A 100 – 93 B 92 – 85 C 84 – 75 D 74 – 70 F 69 and below Your child’s grade will reflect how they compare academically, not work habits. Look for letter grades on papers to know if they are summative assessments – if they do not have letter grades on them, it was not an assessment that we recorded in Skyward.

Math Math Facts (Multiplication/Division) STUDY STUDY STUDY Grades: 2-3 quiz grades, 1 test per unit, weekly center participation, HW (study guide completion and signature) Learning Blog/Journal: Used to build writing skills and reflect on math learning Homework will be given as extra practice as needed. Flash cards, writing math facts repeatedly, timed tests, BE CREATIVE!

What you can do to help: Start each day with words of encouragement Read to and with your child Check and sign the planner daily Go over any missed work or problems Review basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts on a regular basis
