Master ASL Unit Two “Directionality” American Sign Language I Ocean City High School Ms. Severino

What is directionality? The meaning of some signs in ASL can change, based on the way some signs are moved. This feature of ASL is called directionality. Hint: If you want to sign something being done to, for, or with you, then the sign tends to be directional.

The directional verb “HELP” HELP~ME HELP~YOU HELP~US HELP~HER/HIM HELP~THEM Note: You don’t need to add the sign for the pronouns above-they are included in the sign!

Comprehension Check Please help me. I can help you. Use the correct form of help in each sentence. Please help me. I can help you. He/She can help you. Help us. Help them. You help ___________.

Other Directional Verbs Give Move

More Directionality Practice Please give me a pencil. May I move your paper? She will help you.

Questions???

Number your paper 1-9 You will write down one directional verb for each signed sentence: help, move, or give Each sentence will be signed twice only. Testing rules will apply.

Good Luck!
