Water Funds are organizations that: WHAT IS A WATER FUND? Water Funds are organizations that: 1 design and enhance financial & governance mechanisms 2 which unite stakeholders public private civil society Water Funds are organizations that design and enhance financial and governance mechanisms which unite public, private and civil society stakeholders around a common goal to contribute to water security through nature-based solutions and sustainable watershed management. In order to accomplish its goals, water funds: 1. Convene stakeholders to generate political will and enable meaningful and positive impact on scale. 2. Close important and relevant evidence gaps using a science-based approach. 3. Positively influence water-related governance and decision-making.  4. Encourage and drive implementation of natural infrastructure and other innovative projects at the basin level. 5. Offer an attractive vehicle for pooling resources to invest cost-effectively and equitably in source watersheds to restore, maintain, or improve their ability to deliver clean and reliable water supplies, besides providing other benefits important to the communities.  6. Societies can enjoy water security when they comprehensively and successfully manage their water resources and services to: Restore healthy rivers, aquifers, and ecosystems; Satisfy household water and sanitation needs in all communities; Support productive economies in agriculture, industry, and energy; Develop healthy, vibrant, livable cities and towns with a solid water culture; Build resilient communities that can adapt to climate change. Societies can enjoy water security when they comprehensively and successfully manage their water resources and services to: Restore healthy rivers, aquifers, and ecosystems; Satisfy household water and sanitation needs in all communities; Support productive economies in agriculture, industry, and energy; Develop healthy, vibrant, livable cities and towns with a solid water culture; Build resilient communities that can adapt to climate change. 2 *Based on Asian Development Bank’s definition. © Nick Hall
