Water Funds are organizations that: 1 design and enhance financial & governance mechanisms 2 which unite stakeholders public private civil society Water Funds are organizations that design and enhance financial and governance mechanisms which unite public, private and civil society stakeholders around a common goal to contribute to water security through nature-based solutions and sustainable watershed management. In order to accomplish its goals, water funds: 1. Convene stakeholders to generate political will and enable meaningful and positive impact on scale. 2. Close important and relevant evidence gaps using a science-based approach. 3. Positively influence water-related governance and decision-making. 4. Encourage and drive implementation of natural infrastructure and other innovative projects at the basin level. 5. Offer an attractive vehicle for pooling resources to invest cost-effectively and equitably in source watersheds to restore, maintain, or improve their ability to deliver clean and reliable water supplies, besides providing other benefits important to the communities. 6.
