Shields Form A Star. Meaning of the Symbol The shield shapes are assembled to create a star, representing the two common badge forms - the shield and the star.

Intertwined In A Knot. Meaning of the Symbol The badges are interconnected, representing the togetherness and strength that form the inseparable bond of brother and sisterhood amongst law enforcement and corrections officers. At the time of a Line of Duty Death or serious injury incident, law enforcement and corrections staff and agencies as well as other first response personnel, link arms and stand as one to support the fallen, their families, communities, and agencies.

Meaning of the Symbol The Color Blue. Blue represents peace and all peace officers currently serving together to form the Thin Blue Line. The Thin Blue Line is the line between chaos and order in our society.

Meaning of the Symbol Mourning Band. The mourning band is placed over one of the shields, representing the fallen officer, while the other badge forms link arms to lift it up and move forward. The mourning band is the universal symbol worn by officers from the time of an officers death and during the funeral of the fallen comrade.
