Nucleus Division By Krishna, Aria, & Katie
Nuclear Envelope Also known as the nuclear membrane - surrounds the nucleus Consists of two lipid bilayers - hydrophobic ends face inwards and hydrophilic phosphate heads face outwards Inner nuclear membrane Outer nuclear membrane It also regulates what goes in and out of the nucleus through pores in the membrane Molecules, ions, and proteins
Chromosomes protein and one molecule of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) Instructional blueprints Without histones, DNA molecules would be too long to fit inside cells Problems may occur when DNA structures divide and reproduce ex. leukemia and down syndrome 23 pairs of chromosomes, or 46 total one copy of each chromosome is inherited from the female parent and the other from the male parent. XX = female XY = male single chromosome prokaryotes, which is sometimes called a genophore to distinguish it from eukaryotic chromosomes.
