World Religions Bringing it home Most people look to gods, deities, spirits, or nature as a source of explanation to explain the mysteries of life. Organized religion became prevalent as people began to settle in larger groups for longer periods of time. Religion is a major cohesive force that defines a nation of people. Many customs, traditions, lifestyles, laws, morals, and goals are the cultural heritage of nations tied to these deities.
