Lab Equipment and Safety
Lab Safety - A Few Basics Take Mental Notes
How to dress... Always wear appropriate safety gear for the lab we are doing : goggles, apron, gloves. Wear closed-toe shoes. Take off jewellery and scarves and roll up your sleeves. Tie back long hair.
How to behave... No fooling around, shoving, etc. Stay at your station. Be smart: if you don’t know how to proceed, or feel uncomfortable, be sure to ask for assistance. Be sure to always follow the lab procedures. NEVER do anything unless directed to do so. No food or drink.
Be safe Don’t put your face, (eyes and nose), near chemicals. Be cautious near flames. Handle equipment carefully.
Advise Mr. O’Brien or Al if... Any material is broken or damaged. Chemicals are spilled. Someone is injured. Every injury must be reported.
Just in case... Eyewash station (at front) and fire extinguisher (by door) are in this room. Emergency shower is in room 307. Fire blanket is in room 305.
Clean up after yourself! Clutter is not helping at your station. Make sure to clean all materials and return them as instructed. Wash the desk with brown paper when you are finished.
