1-4 Measuring Segments and Angles part 1 L.E.Q. How do you find the lengths of segments?

What does AB mean? AB without any symbol above it is a question. It is asking/telling you what the length of the segment with endpoints A and B is.

What are congruent segments? Segments that have the same length/measure.

In other words:

How do you know that 2 segments are congruent How do you know that 2 segments are congruent? What kind of proof would you need? They would have to have the same number of tic marks on them. There would have to be proof that their lengths are equal in measure.

Postulate 1-6, The Segment Addition Postulate. If 3 points A, B, and C are collinear and B is between A and C, then AB + BC = AC.

EXAMPLE: Using the segment addition postulate. If AB = 25, find the value of x. Then find AN and NB.

What is a midpoint? A point on a segment that is the same distance from both endpoints. The midpoint bisects the segment.

EXAMPLE: Using midpoint to find lengths. M is the midpoint of RT. Find RM, MT, and RT.

Hw: Pgs. 29-30 #s 2 – 14 even.
