Europe Vocabulary

Colony Colony – a group of people who settle far away from their homeland but still have ties with it

Empire Empire – an extensive group of states or countries under a single supreme authority

Imperialism Imperialism – the policy of obtaining and occupying land to form an empire

Ally Ally – a country or person that has joined with another country or person for a special purpose

Alliance Alliance – a union of countries to achieve a particular goal

Reparations Reparations – payment by a government to a group of people for loss or damage

Depression Depression – a time where business is bad and people lose their jobs

Fascism Fascism – a political philosophy in which total power is given to a dictator and individual freedoms are denied

Nationalism Nationalism – strong devotion to one’s nation

Dictator Dictator – a ruler with absolute power and authority
