Quality Food Allegra Kistler Ellis Store Name-Bliss Organics Second semester unit project

Northside Business Proposal for: Bliss Organics The food I will be selling at Bliss Organics, will be mostly produce. With regular food in the mix. Such as whole grain bread products, free range meat and cheese, etcetera. There will be no unhealthy food. If people can not come and get the food themselves, then my employees would deliver it to their houses for and additional $5.00’s. Bliss Organics store will be in the middle of the Northside neighborhood. So everybody can reach it. The prices of food are to be low and high. Depending on if we grow the food in the neighborhood, or have it imported from somewhere else. My store will improve the health in the Northside neighborhood. All the food I sell will be organic, and high quality. I will make sure that there are no pesticides or chemicals in the vegetables and fruit. All the nutrition will build up their immune system. Making it harder and harder for them to get sick. If the people in the Northside neighborhood eat nutritious and healthy food, they will feel better. The reason for this is because the nutrition and proteins in the food will give them more energy. The energy will also last longer so they don’t need to keep stuffing their face with unhealthy food.

Math: Quality Food Survey From the 10 people surveyed, 62% said that they had reasonable access to quality food. While 38% said that they didn’t have reasonable access to quality food. I surveyed 10 of my peers and asked them what transportation they used to get to their closest grocery store. Their answers are in the bar graph on the left.

English: Summary of Quality Food story The Northside neighborhood needs a good grocery store. Here is and example of why investing in this idea is important. I occasionally eat non-quality food. So one morning before school, I decided to have chocolate fudge and peanut butter toast (it was very tasty). Now, my community doesn’t have that many good stores that carry quality food. We have a Meijer, and a few Harding’s. But that’s about it. The breakfast that I ate that morning was not good quality food. If there is a new store in the Northside neighborhood, kids like me will eat healthier food for all meals. People in general will learn better by eating better food.

Math continued: Big Grocery Store vs. Convenience Store Meijer unit price Sunny Mart unit price Milk $ 1.59 per quart $1.99 per quart Orange Juice $ 0.04 per oz. $ 0.12 per oz. Tuna Fish $ 0.15 per oz. $ 0.20 per oz. Applesauce $ 0.25 per cup $ 0.32 per cup Corn $ 0.06 per oz. It is better to shop at Meijer because the products are better quality for less money.

Science: Apples I would like to grow apples for my community. They are a healthy alternative to junk food. Apples are free from fat, cholesterol, and sodium. And they are an excellent source of fiber. Apples need 3 to 4.5 inches of rain a month. And can live in 30 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Apples in Michigan, will grow from July-November. In those months, the apples will get around 12 hours of sunlight. Apples can survive with only 1 inch of water a month, and we get well over 1 inch. The temperatures in Michigan range from 30 to 80 degrees, which is what temperatures apples can live in.

Science continued: Asparagus I would like to grow asparagus in my community. Asparagus in the leading supplier of folic acid in the vegetable group. It contains potassium, fiber, vitamin B6, and glutathione. Asparagus’s growing season ranges from March-June. It needs about 2.5 to 3.5 inches of rain a month, and can survive in 25 to 80 degree temperatures. In it’s growing period, asparagus gets around 12 hours of sunlight. Which is exactly what it needs.
