The Future of Civil Society in Tees Valley 4 July 2019 5 @MVDANews

Embracing uncertainty Changes in political leadership and the impact? The future economic and fiscal reality? Where’s the money for VCS activity going to come from in the long-term? What does ‘place’ mean to us now? And what is the role of Civil Society in generating the debate around place- shaping?

More (and better) collaboration? Is there an unhealthy obsession around collaboration? Are there missed opportunities to collaborate due to the ‘false reality’ associated with it? Do we need a different conversation on collaboration to reflect the complexity in society and systems? From transaction to transformation…

Will we see an increase in community activism? Generally more people wanting to do more things for the greater good? Different communities and different interests? Dissatisfaction with the state? New and different approaches to community activism? MVDA seeing more community activism

In conclusion… The only thing that is certain is uncertainty. How do we embrace it to maximise the role of Civil Society? Most, if not all of us, see collaboration as one route to maximising our collective impact. We’ve got a long way to go. What’s going to enable us to appropriately do more of it? Community action is at the heart of civil society. There are lots of good things going on. How can we support more of it?
