Organizational Focus Deputy Superintendent – Chief Academic Officer Director of Elementary Education Director of Secondary Education Focus: Move the needle for every student. Associate Superintendent – Chief of Staff Director of Human Capital Development Focus: Move the needle for every adult.

Human Capital Human Capital is defined as the productive skills and technical knowledge of employees. It includes an individual’s knowledge, skills, and abilities and the values and motivation they have to apply their skills to the organizations goals. Investing in the development of our people is necessary to build our capacity. Human Capital Development / Personnel

HCD vs. Personnel Personnel must maintain records, mediate disputes, negotiate contracts, etc., leaving little time to focus on developing our most important resource School Systems are essentially Human Enterprises 83% of our financial resources are devoted to people We employ about 1,000 people (Certified & Non Certified) Too often the “people side” of education is overlooked Instructional staff and administrators need new tools and resources to meet the individual needs of every student

Purpose – Improving Student Performance Effective teachers in EVERY classroom Effective leaders in EVERY school Excellent Instruction = Successful Learning Strategic Human Capital Alignment Transparency Accountability

Goal of HCD Design a system that will build the district’s capacity to meet the learning needs of all students by: creating a culture of evidence-based continuous improvement ensuring continued employee growth recruiting, recognizing, and developing talent providing leadership training and opportunities making employment with the Newington Public Schools rewarding and fulfilling

HCD Professional Learning Protocols ALL Professional Learning will be: Sustained Job – embedded Collegial Interactive Integrative Practical Results-Oriented
