It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). The material in this document is subject to change in form and content after further study. The contributor(s) reserve(s) the right to add, amend or withdraw material contained herein. Release: The contributor grants a free, irrevocable license to the IEEE to incorporate material contained in this contribution, and any modifications thereof, in the creation of an IEEE Standards publication; to copyright in the IEEE’s name any IEEE Standards publication even though it may include portions of this contribution; and at the IEEE’s sole discretion to permit others to reproduce in whole or in part the resulting IEEE Standards publication. The contributor also acknowledges and accepts that this contribution may be made public by IEEE 802.11. Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures <http:// ieee802.org/guides/bylaws/sb-bylaws.pdf>, including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair <stuart.kerry@philips.com> as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE 802.11 Working Group. If you have questions, contact the IEEE Patent Committee Administrator at <patcom@ieee.org>. Stefano M. Faccin, Nokia

November 2005 Abstract This document contains the IEEE 802.11 – 3GPP2 liaison report for November 2005. Stefano M. Faccin, Nokia

November 2005 Status of Liaison Liaison letter sent from 802.11 to 3GPP2 after September meeting Liaison presented and discussed at 3GPP2 October meeting Presentation of 11-05-0822-03-000u-tgu-requirements, in TSG-X “Core Networks” 3GPP2 TSG-X ERA (Evolution, Requirements and Architecture), jointly with TSG-S “Services and Systems Aspects” Stefano M. Faccin, Nokia

3GPP2 Activities related to IEEE 802.11: TSG-S November 2005 3GPP2 Activities related to IEEE 802.11: TSG-S Stage-1 Requirements (S.R0087-0) published August 04 Four main scenarios supported: Scenario 1: Common billing & Customer Care Scenario 2: Common authentication & WLAN Direct IP Access Focus on 802.1X authentication with EAP-TLS; EAP-AKA Access to IP connectivity, not 3GPP2 services Scenario 3: WLAN 3GPP2 IP Access Authentication/authorization/accounting based on 3GPP2 Home System Access to the 3GPP2 Home System packet data services Scenario 4: Session Continuity continuity of a packet data session while switching of network connection takes places between the available access systems (e.g. WLAN-3GPP2) Stefano M. Faccin, Nokia

3GPP2 Activities related to IEEE 802.11: TSG-X November 2005 3GPP2 Activities related to IEEE 802.11: TSG-X Stage-2/3 Specification Phase I (X.P0028-0) completed (3Q04). Not published yet. Supports scenarios 1 and 2 Stage-2/3 Specification Phase II (X.P0028-A) Planned to support scenarios 3 and 4 Stefano M. Faccin, Nokia

November 2005 Main Feedback Main comment is that 3GPP2 has been developing the 3GPP2-WLAN interworking assuming that 802.11 is a black box and no enhancements/changes are possible 3GPP2 indicated that further study of the requirements will take place, and comments will be provided to 802.11 3GPP2 also indicated that for scenarios currently developed for the IW the work in 802.11 TGu is most probably not relevant due to the timelines for TGu However, for longer term aspects of the IW, TGu work can provide valid tools to 3GPP2 Stefano M. Faccin, Nokia
