Tell the World Project By: Ashley Harris

My project For my Tell the World Project, I decided to write to a magazine I subscribe to. It is a magazine on mental health. Online, anyone can submit an essay about a topic to the magazine and may be able to get published in an upcoming publication.

About my project I wrote about how being a nurse and having a mental illness has affected my life. I talked a lot about how having a nursing background and practicing as a nurse helped me tremendously through the difficult times I’ve had since I was diagnosed. I gave some background about myself, then dove into my life as a nurse.

How did it go At first, I was very hesitant to do this project. Doing what I did for this project was my idea. I was incredibly nervous. Everyone I talked to said I should do it. I have never gone public about my mental illness before. The way I looked at it is, maybe through all this, I may be able to help one person by telling my story. I know I have helped myself by doing this project. I never would have thought I would have the strength to do it.

Conclusion After completing this project, I am grateful for the opportunity that presented itself during this time. I’m curious to see if my piece just might be published. I would be ecstatic if it does! Thank you for reviewing my project. Have a happy and joyous Christmas break!
