INTERIOR PARTS OF THE BRAIN ACTIVITY Name Sue Fox Date September 26, 2017

NAME OF PART: Cerebrum 2 – 3 Functions Thinking Memory Speech Muscular Movement

NAME OF PART: Cerebellum 2 – 3 Functions Cognitive processing Thoughts Emotions Senses Memories

NAME OF PART: Amygdala 2 – 3 Functions Emotions: fear Regulates integration with the environment

NAME OF PART: Corpus Callosum 2 – 3 Functions Allows communication between the two hemispheres of the brain. It is responsible for transmitting neural messages between both the right and left hemispheres.

NAME OF PART: Prefrontal Cortex 2 – 3 Functions Planning Thinking Rational and executive control Higher-order thinking Problem solving Regulating excess emotion

NAME OF PART: Thalamus 2 – 3 Functions All incoming senses except smell comes to the Thalamus The cerebrum and cerebellum also send signals to it Cognitive activities

NAME OF PART: Hippocampus 2 – 3 Functions Consolidates learning Converts information to long term memory Checks information relayed to working memory and compares it to stored experiences.

NAME OF PART: Brainstem 2 – 3 Functions Smell Vital body functions monitored and controlled (heart rate, blood pressure, etc)

NAME OF PART: Hypothalamus 2 – 3 Functions Controls the release of hormones Moderates sleep, temperature, food intake, liquid intake
