Nancy Harr Molly Turner There’s only one you! It’s time to share some wisdom with you. Nancy Harr Molly Turner

Always be on the lookout for a new friend Varying abilities (social and academic) Level of support New colleagues Utilize resources Approximately 50% or more of students with disabilities spend at least 80% of their day in the general education classroom. There are many different teaching styles. Depending on the classroom that you are in, the teacher might not have the same teaching style, but that doesn’t mean you can’t work together and have a good relationship. Utilize your resources—reach out to other teachers in the building and from other disciplinaries. Even be willing to look outside of the building for different professionals who might have ideas. Beyond ”people” you can look for resources on the internet, blogs, in books, etc. Every student brings something unique to the classroom. Certain students might seem like they require a lot of work because of meetings and going the extra mile, but some of those students can bring forth the best learning opportunities. Give everyone a fair chance!

Look for beauty wherever you are Think about positives Find the good Provide Opportunities to share Allow students to take ownership in success Take time to think about the positives. Share about the 180 days of awesome book. Some days are better than others, find the good in every day Teacher Think about the positives Find the good

Blend in when you need to, stand out when you have a chance Create a classroom that accepts and embraces diversity Help students feel empowered Make a difference Be true to you!

Find your own way—you don’t have to follow the crowd Let students be individuals Everyone has strengths—find a way to share your own strengths Encourage celebrations Provide choices in how to present knowledge

Know when to speak; know when to listen Let experts be experts Know there is a team Be willing to try new things Allow for processing and wait time Foster opportunities to share Create equal opportunities This is a blended one

If you make a wrong turn, circle back Don’t give up Admit mistakes Learn something new

If something gets in your way, move around it There will be obstacles, but keep going Think outside the box Use your resources

Set aside some quiet time to relax and reflect every day Ask the following questions: How did things go today? What could I have done different? What can I change for tomorrow? What are reflective questions that you ask yourself?

ENJOY THE VARIETY LIFE HAS TO OFFER! Appreciate art ENJOY THE VARIETY LIFE HAS TO OFFER!

Make wishes on the stars in the nighttime sky Dream big for your students, families, and for yourself!

How to make it happen? The question is not, “How can we fix a disability?” but “How can we make out classroom environment a place where all students can learn?” (Kirby, 2016) Teacher Family Student Try not to get overwhelmed Meet them where they are They’re excited to go out into the world with what they learn! Seek out resources Be included Welcome everyone! Stay Informed

There’s only one you in this great big world! Make it a better place! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHHghrHUGOI
