Successful Single-Lung Transplantation for Multicentric Castleman Disease  Yuki Morimura, MD, Fengshi Chen, MD, PhD, Tomoaki Kinjo, MD, Aya Miyagawa-Hayashino, MD, PhD, Takeshi Kubo, MD, Tetsu Yamada, MD, Masaaki Sato, MD, PhD, Akihiro Aoyama, MD, PhD, Hiroshi Date, MD, PhD  The Annals of Thoracic Surgery  Volume 98, Issue 3, Pages e63-e65 (September 2014) DOI: 10.1016/j.athoracsur.2014.06.074 Copyright © 2014 The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Terms and Conditions

Fig 1 (A) Chest radiography before and (B) at 6 months after right single-lung transplantation. Preoperative chest radiography demonstrated numerous thin-walled cysts in both lungs. Postoperative chest radiography revealed that the overinflation of the left native lung had improved. Fig 2 Preoperative chest computed tomography of the (A) upper lobes and (B) lower lobes. The lung parenchyma in the upper lobes was almost entirely replaced with cystic structures, and thus only a minimal amount of functioning lung tissue had remained. In the lower lobes, cystic changes were observed predominantly along the pulmonary arteries, bronchi, and veins. Fig 3 Pathology of the explanted native right lung. (A) The upper lobe showed cystic enlargement of the alveolar walls and interstitial infiltration of lymphocytes and plasma cells (hematoxylin and eosin staining, original magnification: 20×). (B) The lower lobe showed a densely cellular appearance of the alveolar septa and peribronchiolar interstitium (hematoxylin and eosin staining, original magnification: 40×).
