THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST MATTHEW 1:18-25
WHY DID GOD BECOME MAN? 1. To become one of us. (1:23) “And they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.” Some who deny that Jesus is God, undermine the virgin birth(virgin conception) as well (Muslims, Mormons, New Agers, & most Americans too).
WHY DID GOD BECOME MAN? 2. To fulfill prophecy. (1:22) “All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet (Isaiah 7:14).” Matthew 1:1-17 is a detailed record of Jesus’s lineage through Joseph. 4 women (Tamar, 1:3; Rahab & Ruth, 1:5; and Bathsheba, 1:6).
TO FULFILL PROPHECY The line of David (1:1-17) contains some who were heroes of the faith, Some who were shady, Some who were evil, Some who were quite ordinary.
WHY DID GOD BECOME MAN? 3. To redeem us from sin. (1:21) “You are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Jesus means “Jehovah saves.”
TO RERDEEM US Hebrews 2:9 “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.”
TO REDEEM US Hebrews 9: 26 “But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.”
TO REDEEM US Hebrews 10:10 “We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Hebrews 10:14 “Because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”
WHY DID GOD BECOME MAN? To fulfill prophecy. To become one of us. To redeem us from sin.
