Why did the apostle Paul warn everyone “not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think”? (Romans 12:3)

What’s Wrong with Self Elevation? Jesus spoke a parable about a Pharisee and a Publican “to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others” (Luke 18:9)

What’s Wrong with Self Elevation? The Pharisee was guilty of elevating himself. “The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.’” (Luke 18:11)

What’s Wrong with Self Elevation? Jesus taught that the Pharisee was not justified before God because “everyone who exalts himself will be humbled” (Luke 18:14)

What’s Wrong with Self Elevation? Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18)

What’s Wrong with Self Elevation? Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. (Proverbs 26:12)

What’s Wrong with Self Elevation? Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honor is humility. (Proverbs 18:12)

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time”(1 Peter 5:6)
