Native American Tribes By: Kali Cole Caitlyn Perry

Where did they come from? Two theories Crossed the Bering Strait during the Ice Age Crossed from Asia on small canoe-like boats

II. Three Native American Tribes Mayan Located on Yucatan peninsula (Chichen-Itza) Height of empire(300-900 a.d.) Religion-polytheistic (performed many ceremonies and sacrifices)-it was actually and honor to be sacrificed in all three civilizations Leaders were kings and gods Slash and burn framing techniques Cities were organized into religious, market, and recreational centers

B. Aztec Located in central Mexico (Tenochtitlan) Mexico City 1200-1500 a.d. Religion- polytheistic (ritualistic and sacrificial) Leader was king and god Chinampa-agriculture system- garden plots built on floating piers(remember, Tenochtitlan was surrounded by a lake) Considered the most warlike

C. Inca Located in Andes Mountains (Cuzco) 1400-1500 a.d. Religion- polytheistic (same as others) Emperor was a god Terrace farming- since Inca lived in large mountains, they cut levels out of the mountain (like steps) to farm on. The water draining down the mountain would act as a irrigation.
