Literacy Rate back of NB #11

South Africa has the highest total literacy rate in Africa. Ghana has the lowest literacy rate in Africa. Egypt has the largest discrepancy in literacy rate between men and women in Africa with a 23.6% difference. With a large discrepancy in the literacy rate between men and women it usually means that women are not treated equally and don’t have the same opportunities for education.

Farmers, laborers, unskilled jobs because they can’t read and write. Doctor, lawyer, engineer because they can read and write. Low literacy rates will lead to lower GDP in countries.

High literacy rates will lead to higher GDP in countries.
