Schematic representation of diverse populations of neocortical projection neurons with CPN projecting subsets, including CPN (green), CPN with a dual ipsilateral forward projection (CPN/FPN; red), CPN with a dual ipsilateral backward projection (CPN/BPN; magenta), intratelencephalic corticostriatal projection neurons (CStrPNi; blue), and anterior commissure projection neurons (ACN; yellow). A–D, Retrograde labeling was performed for CPN (A; green), FPN (B; red), BPN (C; red), and CStrPNi/ACN (D; red).
