What El Alcazar de Segovia is a castle-palace

Where El Alcazar de Segovia is located in the city of Segovia in the province of Segovia in Spain

When El Alcazar de Segovia was first built in the 11th century. In 1882 it was rebuilt due to a fire

Why it’s important This castle is important because it housed many Spanish famous kings. On December 12th news of King Henry IV’s death reached the castle and Queen Isabella I of Castile took refuge in El Alcazar de Segovia. She was crowned Queen of Castile and Leon a day later El Alcazar de Segovia was also a prison for 200 years.

The interior of El Alcazar de Segovia and was rebuilt in 1882 because of a fire. Old sketches were used as a guide to try and make the interior as close to the original as possible. How it was rebuilt

Past El Alcazar was originally an Arab fort but a small amount that that remains. In 1474 Queen Isabel became the queen of Castile and Carlos III built the Royal Artillery College. King Phillip II made his capital in Madrid but made changes to El Alcazar, replacing the roofing like ones he saw in Belguim.

Present Now El Alcazar is a very popular site in Spain. It houses works of art and rooms representing Spanish kings and queens over the country’s history.

How it shapes life in Spain today It’s a historical and tourist attraction that brings thousands of people to the area, adding to Spain’s economy.
