Leakages Low levels of recycling-High levels of landfilling Incineration of recyclable waste No long-term targets Despite this situiation, there are still a lot of leakages in the EU system: only 36% of the waste we generate is recycled today though landfilling still repsents 42% of the waste gnerated. There are significant differneces between MS – for instance 7 MS are not landfilling any MSW altough 14 MS are still landfilling more than 70% of their MSW Environment: inefficient use of resources has negative environmental impacts (greenhouse gas and other emissions, depletion of resources, impacts on landscape, water pollution, etc.) Source: Eurostat
