Hamid Vakilzadian West Area Chair West Area sections: Arrowhead, Cedar Rapids, Central Iowa, Coulee, Iowa Illinois, Missouri Slope, Nebraska, Red River Valley, Siouxland, Southern Minnesota, and Twin Cities The Area Chairs are responsible to support sections/subsections. Region 4 has 3 area chairs- West, Central and East. West Area includes Arrowhead, Cedar Rapids, Central Iowa, Coulee, Iowa Illinois, Missouri Slope, Nebraska, Red River Valley, Siouxland, Southern Minnesota, and Twin Cities Central Area includes Northeastern Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Chicago, Rockland, Calumet, and Central Illinois East Area includes, Southeastern Michigan, Northeastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Toledo, Central Indiana Fort Wayne, and Bloomington Sub-Section. Duties and responsibilities include: Encourage communications between sections/subsections and the region. Resolve problems that sections cannot solve on their own or escalate to the Region or the Institute. Train section leaders through quality area workshops. Visit section meetings as possible Develop a presence for the region at the section Be aware of section leader changes and problems that threaten the success of a section Encourage sections to participate in region meetings Keep region leadership aware of section problems Actively participate in the region Key interfaces: Section leaders Other area chairs Region Director Section support at the Institute

Responsibilities Train section leaders Develop region presence at the section level Help R4 in achieving its goals Help sections to become successful

Key item Develop short term and long term goals Suggestions: Consider a brain storming session with your Xcom members to develop goals and plans to achieve the goals. Plan budget for the set goals Consider holding at least one workshop Topic, date, well publicize ahead of time Consider having at least one pre-college activity Be more visible in your area Increase section activities, publicize the meetings well (newsletter, email, web page, local papers, invitation, etc.) keep section web page up-to-date Take advantage of Region 4 and IEEE resources
