Maynooth University International College International Foundation Programme is available to international students who are unable to meet the academic and English language entry requirements for an undergraduate degree. Upon successful completion, the student receives the Certificate in International Foundation Studies which is a 60-credit, level 6, special purpose award. Students who successfully complete the programme will be guaranteed progression to their chosen undergraduate programme at Maynooth University. The programme is taught at Maynooth University so students gain access to the university facilities and amenities and at the same time, enjoy smaller class sizes with more personalised attention and support.

International Postgraduate Foundation Programme is available to international students who are unable to meet the academic and English language entry requirements for postgraduate degree. Upon successful completion, the student receives the Certificate in Research Skills which is a 30-credit, level 8, special purpose award. Students will develop their knowledge of English for Academic Purposes, academic writing and research skills as well as enhance their knowledge of research ethics and intercultural communications. The programme is taught at Maynooth University so students commence the foundation postgraduate program in a university setting but under a curriculum that will ensure a higher success rate of postgraduate completion.

Undergraduate Admission Requirements Students must have completed a recognised School Leaving examination which is considered equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate. Certain programmes may have specific or additional requirements (e.g. Leaving Certificate Mathematics or equivalent is required for the BA Finance degree). Note that all applicants applying from outside Ireland are NOT required to have taken the Irish language. Postgraduate Admission Requirements Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to Irish university primary degree level. Certain programmes may have additional requirements. English Language Requirements Minimum English language requirements: IELTS: 6.5 minimum overall score - applicants for Business Masters programmes must also have a minimum of 6.0 in reading and writing TOEFL (Paper based test): 560 TOEFL (Internet based test): 92 PTE(Pearson): 59

Off-campus Accommodation Options Sharing with a property owner There are three main types of accommodation available in this sector; Room with a meal plan: Self Catering: Room only price varies but normally cheaper than self-catering Average price: €115-€120 5 days , €140-€150 7 days €90-€100 5 days, €100-€110 7 days Whole house or house share / Apartment of apartment share Average Price €300-€450 per person per month For the student who wants to share with other students or professionals. This type of accommodation tends to be more complex and students need to understand such things as leases, minimum notice, group leases and the rights and obligations of tenants and landlords.

Cost of Living Cost of living is estimated to be less expensive at Maynooth than at other Irish universities due to it’s location.

Working Part-time Work up to 20 hours per week is allowed if students are studying full time and are fully registered Students can work full-time during holiday periods Part-time work can potentially assist with living expenses and incidentals but will not be enough to cover all living cost International students who wish to take up work in Ireland must obtain a Personal Public Services Number. Part-time jobs are advertised on notice boards in the Students Union, newspapers and online. Ireland’s minimum wage is €9.15 per hour

How do I Apply for a Visa? Student Visa applications should be made directly to the nearest Irish Embassy. A List of Contact details for Irish Embassies and Consulates can be found at the website of the Department of Foreign Affairs: www.dfa.ie. The main conditions of being a Full Time Degree Programme Non EEA student are: The maximum time a student may stay in Ireland for the purpose of attending courses at degree level is limited to seven years; A Letter of Acceptance from the college, confirming you have been accepted and enrolled on a course of full-time, day-time education You must have proof that fees have been paid to the college. The full amount of the fees must be paid in advance. You must show financial proof that you have access to €3,000 at first registration. This is in addition to your course fees and can be proven with bank statements or an education bond. All students are required to have private medical insurance, either personally or through a group scheme operated by your college, at time of registration.
