PBIS Training material was updated in Fall 2017 This presentation will hopefully help bridge the previous training material to the updated material. Please feel free to stop us if there is confusion or question on the material. There will also be time at the end for questions.

As We Work This Morning - Keep in Mind: What do I want to take back to my team/building? How will we train the staff? What supports will the staff need?

Once Upon a Time... You and/or your school attended a Tier 1 PBIS Training and life was good. The Team was excited! You were excited!

What Do You Remember... Take a moment and discuss with your elbow buddy the excitement your team may have had and/or work you completed during the training. Don’t forget to introduce yourself.

Let’s take a trip down...

There was a Triangle -

There was much learning and planning done during the training days There was much learning and planning done during the training days. Systems were developed and rolled out to staff and students. Then...

PBIS Meeting @ 3 pm... Then came the first team meeting and we were all like:

Where to Start? Leadership Team/Team Make-Up Meeting Agenda Data

Who Should be at the Table?

Team Format: Leadership Team Past/Current: PBIS team members; Coach seen as leader Updated: PBIS Leadership Team

T1 Leadership Team Leadership teams work together with school and district leaders to make sure the system is implemented with fidelity and is sustainable. •Determine needs, establish goals, celebrate successes •Plan and coordinate implementation fidelity and sustainability of system •Ensure effective and reciprocal communication throughout the system •Identify and support non-negotiables •Action plan and progress monitor •Provide resources, professional development, and coordinate supports

T1 Leadership Team Team members represent multiple perspectives, with particular attention to providing voice to underserved learner populations •Administrator •Regular education teachers •Pupil services staff •Educational assistant •Special education teacher(s) •Family members •Students •Community providers

Wilson Team Make Up Committee Based Team Why? We were tired of BURN OUT Share the responsibility, the successes, etc. Work SMARTER, not HARDER Committees and Descriptions Goal Based Team Long Term Year Goals Short Term Monthly Goals

As We Work This Morning - Keep in Mind: What do I want to take back to my team/building? How will we train the staff? What supports will the staff need?

Where to Start: Agenda

Meeting Agenda We were highly motivated, had great intentions, but lacked SERIOUS focus. We were falling off the hamster wheel. Team and Committee Agendas Whole Group Goals Break Out Check In Minute Taking Form

As We Work This Morning - Keep in Mind: What do I want to take back to my team/building? How will we train the staff? What supports will the staff need?

Data We have loads and loads of data available to us! -Major/minors -Attendance -Grades -Angel List -Health Room Visits -Disciplinary Actions (time out of class, detentions, missed recesses, ISS, OSS, etc.) -Surveys -DEWS/EWS -Teacher Requests for Assistance -More

Data How do we Action Plan around the data available to us? *We are data rich, but information poor

Here’s What! Describe the data - what is it telling you?

So What? Why is that important? What “wonderings” do you have about the data

Now What? Consider and list possible next steps based on the data

Action Plan From the three questions, what sort of action plan can you develop around your data?

Action Planning Who is going to do what by when and how will we know we are having our expected outcomes? How are these expectations going to be communicated? Don’t overthink - what are the smallest/easiest changes you can make that will have the biggest impact? Don’t stop something that is already working

PBIS Assessments Self-Assessment Survey (SAS) - staff perception survey of PBIS Systems ~look at areas partially in place (yellow)

PBIS Assessments Benchmarks of Quality (BoQ) - team survey of PBIS Systems ~look at areas scored as 1 or 2 depending on scale (some are out of 2, some are 3)

PBIS Assessments Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) - team survey of PBIS Systems ~look at areas scored as 1 - both short term and long term planning

PBIS Assessments Use PBIS Assessment data to improve your PBIS systems. Set a timeline to “check-in” on progress of goals developed around your Assessment Results. Each assessment has a “goal setting” form available on the PBISapps.org website

As We Work This Morning - Keep in Mind: What do I want to take back to my team/building? How will we train the staff? What supports will the staff need?

Family Engagement How do we (you) engage your families? How do we Embrace, Engage, and Empower our families? How do we allow our families voice and choice? Family Engagement is about what we do with our families, not to our families

Embrace Engage Empower Lower Impact Higher Impact Family Resource Room Feature Photos that represent families in your school Positive Phone Call Share Academic & Behavioral Expectations P-T Conferences to Set Goals Celebrations Parent Representative(s) on PBIS/RtI Universal Team Monthly Positive Phone Calls/Contacts Back to School Nights Potlucks Communications done in home language Modeling Learning Support Strategies Acknowledgement System Class Parties Home Visits Literacy/Math Nights Regular, Personalized Communication Performances Using Family Surveys & Feedback PBIS/RtI Family Brochures, website Read with child at home Fundraisers Data Sharing Folders Embrace Engage Empower

Student Voice Wilson Student Team We needed HELP! And wanted student BUY IN! Student Application Recommendations Monthly Meetings Modeled after our teacher team→ similar committees and goal setting

Before You Forget... Please write down something(s) you want to take back to your team/building. What support may your team need with the new idea(s)? What support may your building staff need with the new idea(s)?
