The purpose of my address this evening is to give you a bit of detail about the day to day job that we do, focusing on our curriculum, our pastoral system and the enrichment opportunities we have on offer. Blurb.. Then : - At Hounsdown, we teach a broad, balanced and relevant 21st century curriculum which is recognised as outstanding by OFSTED. As the students move up through the school, the provision becomes increasingly personalised, enabling students to embark on programmes which emphasises their individual strengths. These personalised programmes may include vocational courses, work related learning and accelerated courses so that pupils are prepared for their post 16 studies and the world of work.

KS3 Curriculum Subjects taught by different teachers. Setting Broad Banding Mixed ability All are used to provide a healthy variety of classes, support and challenge. At Hounsdown, we teach a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum which is recognised as outstanding by OFSTED. As the students move up through the school, the provision becomes increasingly personalised, enabling students to embark on programmes which emphasise their individual strengths. These personalised programmes may include vocational courses, work related learning and accelerated courses so that pupils are prepared for their post 16 studies and the world of work. Hounsdown School emphasises in its curriculum provision the importance of personalisation and has introduced a two year, compressed, Key Stage 3 (Key Stage 3 usually comprises of three years - Years 7, 8 and 9). When they join us, pupils in year 7 are taught in ability sets for a core group of subjects which currently include English, Maths, Science, ICT, Re and Languages. This enables them to work at a pace which suits their individual abilities and ensures that the work is pitched at the right level for these core subjects. They are taught in mixed ability tutor groups for the Foundation subjects and PE. These foundation subjects include Art, Drama, Geography, History and Music. The 9 tutor groups are also divided into 12 Design and Technology groups to ensure that they have opportunity to develop these vital skills, within a safe and active learning environment. This KS3 curriculum not only provides a broad and balanced provision, but enables the pupils to settle into school life; making sure that they are together with their tutor group enables them to form social and friendship groups and as well as achieving, are enjoying their educational experiences. 14
