HVAC and Plumbing Technology May 30, 2019

What happens when education is not rigorous or relevant?

What is RIGOR in CTE? Enhancement of core academics (science, math, English, etc) within the CTE context Alignment of CTE lessons with core academic standards Elevation of student learning Shift student learning from knowledge to understanding Model real-life practice Enhance critical thinking and soft skills

What is RELEVANCE in CTE? Learning knowledge and developing solid understandings through practical technical skills used during instruction Doing activities – not listening to lecture Exploring connections with curriculum beyond classroom walls Exploring subject matter that matters Empowering students to learn intrinsically

Is HVAC/Plumbing a Good Career Path? Everything You Need to Know. Are you wondering if HVAC/Plumbing might be the right career move for you? Before embarking on any new career, it’s important to know what you’re getting into. Is the industry growing? Is there room for advancement and good earning potential? How long will you have to train? Let’s take a closer look at what it means to choose a career as a heating, ventilation and air conditioning technician.

A Day in the Life of an HVAC/Plumbing Technician Most HVAC/Plumbing technicians work for HVAC and Plumbing contractors. However, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that nine- percent are self-employed. Job opportunities for HVAC techs also exist in education and wholesale. HVAC/Plumbing technicians work to repair, install and maintain air conditioning, and heating systems at the residential and commercial level. They drive to jobs to inspect, diagnose and repair issues. They are well versed in both the Plumbing and HVAC fields. Technicians are called upon to do various installations of heating, cooling, and fixture installations.

Curriculum Model

Scheduling Model Level 1 and 2 students will be scheduled during the A.M. Session. The HVAC and Pluming core curriculum is the same at these levels. We have 19 returning plumbing students. Ten of the 19 students are graduating next year. The remaining students will have the following option: Level 3 and 4 students will continue with their program in the afternoon session finishing plumbing, entering coop, and/or being exposed to the HVAC curriculum.

HVAC/Plumbing Technician Job Outlook The future is looking bright for HVAC/plumbing techs. The industry is expected to grow 15 percent through 2026, much faster than average. Commercial and residential construction will drive much of the employment growth. However, many employers fear they might not be able to fill a growing number of open positions because there’s a lack of skilled labor. So, choosing to complete training in HVAC/Plumbing program could help lead you to a career in repair, manufacturing, sales, management and other areas

Is HVAC/Plumbing the Right Career for You? If you like the idea of a career that doesn’t keep you cooped up at a desk all day, training to become an HVAC/Plumbing technician might be the right move for you.
