Spellings… 5 x spellings each week Children practice in handwriting homework book Spelling lessons and practice in school Test is usually on a Thursday At the end of each half term the children do a Secret 5 spelling test- they receive a housepoint for each spelling they get correct The aim of secret 5 is that the children retain the spellings they have learnt over a longer period rather than just learning them for the sake of that weeks test.
Homework… Alternating Maths homework Alternating English homework Weekly spellings/handwriting Weekly times tables to learn Every time your child has 20x reads recorded in their home-school diary, they earn a housepoint Home-school diaries N.B Details of homework will be uploaded on to the year group website page each week. In year five reading is really focused on the comprehension and understanding of what they have read so it is important that children continue to practise their fluency and expression by reading aloud at home.
During the Summer… Continue reading a range of genres Practise times tables Ensure your child can tell the time using analogue and digital clocks Practise Y3/4 statutory spellings We would like to create a shared area display from the summer treasure hunt activities so if the children can bring in any photos or leaflets etc, that would be great. We have set up a year group email address which is on the bottom of the summer treasure hunt for you to send photos to if you do not have access to a printer.
Our 6 learning behaviours Resilience Independence Creativity Team work Critical thinking Reflection Although we will have a half termly focus learning behaviour, we aim to weave the behaviours through all that we do.
