Learning Objectives By the end of this lesson students should be able to understand: The importance of work motivation to organizational psychology The similarities and differences among the various need-motive-value theories of motivation Discuss and apply Maslow’s hierarchy of needs by describing the needs at each level in relation to employee motivation

Motivation defined (Levy, 2017) Work motivation is a force that drives people to behave in a way that it: Energizes, which results in the expenditure of effort Directs effort or behavior in a particular way or channels it toward a particular object or place (i.e., must have direction or purpose) & Sustains effort over a given period of time
