IDS AI Projects They’re over, what now?
Praises
They aren’t over just yet. Overall, we saw some amazing, well thought out, well planned, excellent pieces. We also saw some not great pieces. And we also have several that haven’t turned in anything, or failed to present. An email was sent on Friday to you and your parents/ guardians about missing assignments. We need EVERYONE’S presentations before we are releasing grades.
Disappointments Some students never went and spoke with the specialist about their project- they have valuable advice and you just ignored it. Some students did the projects are home- we cannot grade you accurately if you have done the majority of the project at home (mom and dad are not going to help with your business presentation, they shouldn’t help you with this.) Some just didn’t do the work- we had plenty of time in class to help and many just ignored our presence.
Disappointments, round 2. YOU DIDN’T USE PROPER RESEARCH, you had an entire rotation (with me) on researching and you still didn’t do it. Many just Googled your topic and used the first thing you found. Remember, you should have an author/editor, a date published, a date accessed, and credible websites when researching.
Everyone plagiarized, literally everyone. Part of any paper is putting proper citations within your paper. You did not just magically know when the Hoover Dam was built, how much air pollution we have, when Elvis performed here, etc. You MUST MUST MUST put where you have gotten your information from, otherwise it is considered plagiarized. Part of MLA formatting (which was part of your ELA skill) is paper margins, font, font size, and double spacing. No one had perfect formatting. You will be kicked out of school in college if you do not cite and format your papers correctly.
MLA continued Most of you (trust me, I can tell) did not edit your paper or even proof read it. Many only had one sentence for your justification of skill in your project. Your papers were just lacking. I know I’m passionate about this, but every single one of you could have done better on your Artist Statements.
NOW THIS Because of this, you will go through and edit your paper. You will have: 1 inch margins Times New Roman Font 12 pt font Double Spaced Internal Citations
What’s an internal citation? Whenever you use someone else’s thoughts, ideas, writings, or paraphrasing (ie. It didn’t just magically appear in your head) you need to add an internal citation. If you have summarized or used someone else’s work in a sentenced, even if it’s not a direct quote, you must add a citation at the end of the sentence (Author’s Last name, page number). If you use someone else’s work throughout an entire paragraph you put it at the last sentence of the paragraph.
Internal Citations, round 2. This is why it’s important to check the information on a website. If it does not have an author or an editor, it probably isn’t a reliable or academic source. If there is no page number, you must put the author/editors last name. If there isn’t an author or editor, you probably shouldn’t use that source or web page.
Grammar The letter “I” automatically capitalizes in most word processors. So the fact that many of you have a lower case “i” means that you have trained your computer to not recognize it. Nevada is also capitalized. ALWAYS.
Starting an essay STOP ASKING A QUESTION FOR YOUR HOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not use a quote when starting a paper. Your paper should start with an interesting piece of information. This is your hook, a question to start your paper is not academic.
What now? You have until Friday at the end of class to turn in an edited, updated, and fully cited paper to us. Use your existing paper, and edit it and correct it to be in proper MLA format. This will give you the remaining 4 points to bring up your grades.
