Jorge Luis Borges 1899-1986

Jorge Luis Borges Born in Buenos Aires Argentina in 1899. His ancestors fought for Argentina’s independence and these ancestors served as subjects form many of his poems. Borges spent most of his time in his father’s library. He read many works by Mark Twain and Miguel de Cervantes.

Jorge Luis Borges He read those works in English because his paternal grandmother came from Great Britain and he learned English before he knew Spanish. He inherited weak eyesight from his father which made it difficult to read but he was influenced by his father to fulfill his literary dream.

Jorge Luis Borges Borges is best known for his short stories. He pursued short stories after an accident in 1938 left him uncertain about his mental abilities. He did not want to fail by writing a poem or an essay. La Leyenda is a famous short story with a lesson.
