Double page spread layout ideas By Charlotte Beaumont

TITLE For my article analysis I chose "confessions of a beauty counter girl" taken from cosmopolitanism magazine. I will be analysing the layout, language and journalistic structure of the article.   The article doesn't particularly follow common journalistic rules as instead of a one sentence one paragraph it's just written in one paragraph. As the article is a "confessions piece" it mean's that it comes across like more of a story. This means that it really lacks the journalistic rules usually included. It also doesn't have the 5 W's as it doesn't tell you were or why. Theres no locations like in news stories.  The language of the articles really friendly. I will be analysing the layout, language and journalistic structure of the article.   The article doesn't particularly follow common journalistic rules as instead of a one sentence one paragraph it's just written in one paragraph. As the article is a “ 2,532,000 sold to women each month)  they know what there reading isn't to serious. Because a lot of the audience are working women, a lot married and a lot with kids the fact there articles are light hearted really draws in this audience because it means the articles arn't time consuming.  The layout of the magzine isn't especially out of the ordinary but it does have aspects that make it modernised. For example the image is at the top of the page which is unusual because the title usually sits at the top as it advertises the subject of the article. However this idea does reflect the target audience as younger audiences are more attracted to images because of the amount of time spent on social media there eyes have become more interested in images. Therefore the image will pull them towards the article more then a title would. The article still includes pull quotes but has made them pink which relates to the target audience as pink is a colour commonly associated with women as its seen as very feminine. It doesn't follow the layout of having paragraphs so the text isn't split up. However it does still have columns which is very common in articles as it makes it easier to read.
