Update: Substitute Teachers Guest Teachers Lodi Unified School District June 20, 2017

Steps Taken/Identified Since February Board Meeting Convened an Ad Hoc Committee to gather input Provided survey to Guest Teachers to gather input 2017-2018 substantially reduce district-required training during instructional time Guest Teacher orientation/training planned for July Virtual Job Fair June 22-23 (The Record) to recruit

Steps Taken/Identified June-July: Develop procedures for sites regarding Guest Teachers Welcome/site orientation How to address unfilled assignments Expectations for supporting Guest Teachers

Input From Ad Hoc Committee Provide training for Guest Teachers Improve welcome process at sites Provide assistance with student behavior/discipline Administrators visit classrooms Provide pay rate in line with local districts Reduce teacher trainings that occur during instructional time

Input From Ad Hoc Committee Identify a teacher at each school to serve as a Support for Guest Teachers Responsible to make sure Guest Teachers have what they need for the day Assist with classroom concerns Support Teacher compensated for serving in this role for the year

Guest Teacher Survey All Guest Teachers had the opportunity to complete the survey District notified those on the list Site administrators encouraged them to participate District received 46 surveys

Guest Teacher Survey Results Most important factors when deciding to take assignments in LUSD Specific School and Grade Level – top answers School Location (Stockton/Lodi) and Pay Rate – next highest scores Specific Teacher – lowest score of the five options

Guest Teacher Survey Results All but one indicated that they feel welcomed at the schools always or most of the time. All but four indicated that they receive assistance when needed always or most of the time. Several respondents said they enjoy working in LUSD and had positive comments about their experiences.

Guest Teacher Survey Results Summary of Suggestions All teachers need to leave lesson plans, plans need to be realistic Materials need to be available in office – emergency procedures, maps, keys, etc. Have teachers leave important instructions for the day on Smartfind Express Administrators should personally welcome Guest Teachers Provide feedback to Guest Teachers about the day Provide training/assistance with chromebooks and curriculum Provide assistance with student behavior issues Streamline hiring process Screen applicants better Increase pay, raise pay for long term jobs, higher pay for teaching credential and experience as a teacher
