The role of the form tutor Development of pupils’ skills; academic, social, organisational Develop correct behaviour for learning skills, monitor poor behaviour and implement strategies to support the pupil Monitor and track attendance and support pupils Praise and reward positive behaviour and contributions Help develop independent learning skills Be a role model Regular contact with home Plan meaningful form times Assist with assembly Read out notices and pass on relevant information Update and maintain tutor display Implement the school’s Catholic ethos Mentor and support pupils when necessary

Setting out your stall.. Routines are important. Consider whether: -You have a seating plan. -Pupils lead worship. It shouldn’t be an afterthought. -You have planned activities for tutor time. Are they meaningful? -You encourage participation in debates. Do pupils feel valued and comfortable in tutor time?

Lastly.. Own your tutor group. Be their leader and figurehead. Build a sense of unity and togetherness. They’ll love you for it!
