Theory: Comparing hazards Enquiry Question How does the nature of geophysical hazards vary between places and events? Lesson Objectives: To contrast two contemporary contrasting case studies each for volcanic hazards, earthquake hazards and mass movement hazards

Hazard Profiles The following diagram shows the hazard profile of two contemporary earthquakes. On the left are the characteristics of the hazard. The numbering on the top relates to severity.  As can be seen the tw0 hazards have very similar profiles with the green profile being marginally more severe across the profile. The hidden box reveals which hazards they were as well as the impacts.

Hazard profile Use your case study information to complete the hazard profiles for the Haiti and Mexico earthquakes

Us the Oxford textbook page 186-187 to make notes on the factors affecting risk and vulnerability

Read the sheet from the study guide (embedded on the weebly) and page 184-185 in Oxford textbook and make notes on factors such as time of day, population density, buildings etc…
