Objectives of the cooperation between NSFC and JPI UE Enhance capacities and knowledge on transition towards more sustainable, resilient and liveable urban developments through research cooperation between China and Europe Reduce the fragmentation in funding of research on urban development in Europe and to build critical history of supporting Sino-European R&I cooperation Increase the international profile of urban science, and innovation and foster the exploitation of up-to-date, social and economic models and solutions on a global stage

Aims of the Pilot Call JPI Urban Europe – NSFC Enhance cities’ and urban areas’ capacities for sustainable urbanisation and the required urban transition processes Create knowledge and evidence for urban transitions pathways under different regional and local conditions, considering e.g. cultural, climate, economic differences

JPI Urban Europe – Facts & Figures an intergovernmental R&I initiative on urban transitions and sustainable urban development 20 European countries participating ~ 85 million Euro public investment for joint calls 7 calls implemented, thereof 3 in cooperation with H2020 80+ projects funded 25+ European funding agencies cooperating Cooperation schemes with Belmont Forum and China established JPI Urban Europe follows a vision: …to be the European platform to create, combine, discuss and make available knowledge and robust evidence for sustainable urbanisation. JPI Urban Europe is a member state initiative which is jointly driven by 14 european member states. However, in recent years JPI UE increased it‘s global engagement: 2017: Joint Call in collaboration with the Belmont Forum which brought together 8 international funding agencies to join the call on SUGI – Food Water Energy Nexus (Yellow on Map) 2018: Joint Call with the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Green on Map) Furthermore, in light blue on the map: countries with which JPI Urban Europe explored cooperation opportunities.
