Group 1 Teams – Receive MoD funding MOD able to assist some Teams with the cost of their work Budgeted on several funded Teams costing up to few hundred thousand pounds These will be classed as Group 1 Teams These Teams will have to provide a Commercial Proposal in addition to other paperwork
Group 1 Teams - Commercial Issues MOD GRAND CHALLENGE science | innovation | technology Group 1 Teams - Commercial Issues Group 1Teams must submit a Commercial Proposal and Technical Proposal Two key parts to Commercial Proposal: Price – must be firm price supported by breakdown Response to proposed terms and conditions Assessment of the commercial proposal will focus on value for money in meeting the Grand Challenge Proposed Contract/Terms and Conditions as simple as possible Full guidance and example contract at www.challenge.mod.uk So as we have discussed there are two ways to enter the Grand Challenge, by applying for MoD funding to assist the development of your system as Group 1, or self funded as Group 2. I will first discuss the commercial issues associated with Group 1. Group 1 must submit a Commercial Proposal and Technical Proposal Full guidance on Commercial Proposal at www.challenge.mod.uk. Two key parts to Commercial Proposal: Price – must be firm price supported by breakdown Response to proposed terms and conditions Proposed Contract/Terms and Conditions as simple as possible. Please don’t be intimidated by DEFCONs, these are standard contract conditions that the MOD uses to contract and are on the whole quick to read and simple to interpret. Group 1 Teams - Intellectual Property Rights MOD GRAND CHALLENGE science | innovation | technology Group 1 Teams - Intellectual Property Rights MoD lets the originator keep the Intellectual Property. The contract gives MoD certain User Rights to the Intellectual Property generated under the contract. Pre-existing Intellectual Property or other proprietary information remains the property of the originator. Intellectual Property Rights details covered in Defence Condition (DEFCON) 705.
MOD GRAND CHALLENGE science | innovation | technology Group 2 – Self Funded Self Funded Teams only need submit a Technical Proposal These will be classed as Group 2 Teams If a Group 2 team is successful in the Grand Challenge MoD will aim to negotiate exploitation of the Intellectual Property
