ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY Safety Meeting to Review our Company Policies

Today we will review: Our Environmental, Health & Safety Policy Hazard Communication Program - Hazcom Bloodborne Pathogens Program Clean worksite program Excavation Checklist JSEA program Recognizing “Situations of Accident Potential” (SOAP)

We will conduct business in a manner that protects the environment, and the health and safety of employees & community So how does this statement become real to you? You must understand what it says Plan your work to make sure safety hazards are addressed Consider and control environmental risks Understand the products you use Use the checklists that have been developed Always look at situations, ask “What if” questions and use good practices to control the hazards.

Key points of Environmental, Health & Safety Policy Employees must understand that personal safety and protecting the environment are important Plan your work considering the above Comply with laws Communicate with all workers involved in the job or the area Review specific highlights of our program (handout)

You may see signs like this - Do you anticipate - comply - ignore?

How does this look to you? Ask for questions - the attendees should be able to spot the oil spill and discuss how they would respond.

Hazcom - General You need to understand the health hazards of the chemicals you use Labels & MSDS’s Safety, Health, Spill Response, & Disposal or product and containers are all included in the MSDS Proper response in the event of a spill Notify supervisor and operator Stop spill if possible - only if you can do without exposing yourself to a hazard Close valve, shut off pump, etc. Divert so spill does not reach surface water Verify this is correct per your procedures and polices.

Hazcom - Key points All chemical containers must be labeled - tanks to small quantities you remove from tanks or other containers All chemicals must have MSDS on file and you need to understand the hazards of all the chemicals/products you use You need to receive training in handling chemicals before you use the chemical If you do not know what it is -- ask your supervisor The Company has a written Hazcom program that covers all this in detail

Bloodborne Pathogens Prevent transmission of disease due to exposure to blood and bodily fluids Your exposure will come from giving first aid or cleaning up blood/fluids after an accident Follow universal precautions The Company has a written program that addresses many issues related to Bloodborne pathogens, this should be reviewed with you take first aid / CPR training.

Exposure Precautions

Clean Worksite Program Keep work are clean Dispose of non-hazardous trash in garbage Clean up all spills; larger spills need to be reported Keep truck tool boxes and all supplies stored safely, orderly and properly labeled Keep equipment and tools from blocking walkways and travel paths Inspect work areas before beginning work; note: Safety concerns or hazardous material concerns Pick up and remove trash and scrap Dispose of per instructions given by operator Use trash bins or dumpsters as provided Recycle as much trash, waste or scrap as can reasonably be done Contact supervisor if you have questions

Excavation Checklist These are required to comply with OSHA rules and Company safety policies Complete each day when excavating Confirm line locate and marks are visible Complete the form - (review handout) This form is also a pre-job tailgate meeting All employees must sign the form when the meeting is finished and before work is started If any visitors come to the location, they must sign the form as well

Job Safety Environmental Analysis JSEA Company employees are required to fill out a JSEA prior to beginning a job Use forms provided to record the meeting and time Tailgate meetings should be held when a job changes Completed forms must be turned in to Safety Coordinator Treat these JSEA’s as a serious part of your job - they are a key tool in helping you work safely.

Situations of Accident Potential SOAP Plan ahead and look for hazards, problems or concerns before starting a job Observe situations and ask -- what are the things that can cause injury? Be proactive and correct the problem before it leads to an accident Remember: If the situation is not safe you have Stop Work Authority per the Company program.
